Background

We have now completed an extensive survey with pupils, staff and parents on how best to structure our S3 curriculum. We gathered the views of pupils and parents who had already experienced S3 at Renfrew High, and those who will do in the coming years.

Information on the choice given can be found here.

Outcome

Overall, there was a clear view that pupils should study 7 national courses across S3 and S4 (English, Maths plus 5 subjects of their choice). The S3 curriculum will continue to offer breadth, depth and opportunities for personal achievement, and will support pupils to make the transition into the senior phase in S4-6.

The survey analysis showed that this choice was supported by:

  • the majority of pupils and parents who had experienced S3
  • most pupils and parents in S1/2
  • almost all staff

(majority = 50-74%, most = 75 – 90%, almost all = >90%)

Thank you to all who contributed views to the consultation. We will implement these changes for session 2023-24 (current S2 who will become S3).
